Privacy notice
This notice explains which data ToneLogs processes when you use tonelogs.ch, and why. For questions about your data, or to have it deleted, contact the person who invited you.
What we store
- Your account: email address, password (stored only as a secure hash), optional display name and account tier.
- Your recordings and analysis data: the audio files you record or upload, with their title, Note and capture details (for example sample rate, bit depth, the microphone name your browser reports and, for recordings made in ToneLogs, your browser and operating system type). Also your Equipment and Calibration records, and any calibration files you upload. A miniDSP UMIK calibration file contains the microphone's serial number.
- Usage events: we record when certain features are used, for example that a ToneLog was created or a report exported. These events are linked to your account and help us improve ToneLogs. They contain no audio, file names, email addresses or IP addresses.
- Server logs: our web server logs requests, including IP address, time, requested page and browser information, for security and troubleshooting.
- Cookies: only technically necessary ones: your sign-in session, protection against cross-site request forgery, and your language choice. No advertising or tracking cookies.
Record no sensitive information
Our team can technically access the files stored on our server. Record only the noise you want to analyze. Avoid speech and other sensitive or private content, and never record other people's conversations without their consent.
Who sees your recordings
- Your recordings are private to your account. Other users cannot see them.
- We look at your recordings only if you explicitly ask us for help with your analysis, or where this is strictly necessary to keep the service secure or to comply with the law.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not pass your recordings on to third parties.
Where your data is stored
Your data is stored on our server in a data center of Hetzner Online GmbH in Nuremberg, Germany. Hetzner operates the infrastructure on our behalf. Backup copies stay on our own storage. Account emails, such as address confirmation and password reset, are sent through our email provider Green.ch in Switzerland.
Some page components are loaded from external providers (Cloudflare, Transloadit and Plotly), which receive your IP address when your browser loads them.
How long we keep your data
We keep your recordings and calibration files until you delete them or your account. When you delete your account, we immediately delete the account, your recordings, Equipment, Calibrations and calibration files. Usage events are kept without the link to your account. Deleted data can remain in our backups for a limited time.
Your rights
You can view, correct and delete your data in your account at any time, including deleting the whole account. For anything else, such as a copy of your data, ask the person who invited you. You can also complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, if you live in the EU or EEA, to your local data protection authority.
Changes
We will update this notice as ToneLogs develops, and tell you about significant changes.
